One of the fiercest races at the New York State Championships was in the Boys 3K Steeplechase. The top competitors were Noah Affolder and Eion Nohilly; Affolder, the No. 3 ranked 3200m runner in the nation and Loucks Games 3200m champion, and Nohilly, the 2015 New Balance Nationals Outdoor steeplechase runner-up. Both runners had tired legs: Affolder placed runner-up in the 3200m in 8:55.20 the night before, while Nohilly won the 800m title on Friday in 1:52.77.

Sam Affolder would place third in 9:16.43, a new national freshman class record.
