The Great Southwest Classic in Albuquerque, New Mexico is famed for fast times. The meet records are jaw-dropping marks of 9.99 (+4.0) for boys, per Trayvon Bromell, and 11.20 (+6.9) for girls, per Octavious Freeman, and the nation's top athletes make the trek to the University of New Mexico every June for the chance at blazing -- and often, wind-aided -- marks.
The 2016 edition was no different as both races produced the nation's fastest times this year: Jace Comick ran an all-conditions U.S. No. 1 10.09 to place runner-up to Shivnarine Smalling of Kingston College, Jamaica, who ran 10.08 to win in a lean at the line. The times were aided by a tailwind of 3.0 meters per second.

She nearly bested Freeman's meet record of 11.20, which was run with the aid of an astounding tailwind of 6.9 meters per second! The junior from Palatka High School defeated prior U.S. No. 1 and Texas state champion Sha'Carri Richardson, and looks poised to win the adidas Dream 100 in Boston on June 18.
