National Weekend Rundown for May 28

Top Five Moments of the California Masters Meets

1. Michael Norman runs the world's fastest U-20 200m of 2016! The USC commit set a new California state record of 20.23 in the 200m into a headwind of -1.0 meters per second, which ranks No. 6 on the all-time list. It just edges Norman's prior best of 20.24. The time ranks No. 1 in the world for 2016!

The USC commit also won the 400m in 46.21 and ran legs on Vista Murrieta's winning 4x100m (41.29) and 4x400m (3:14.83) relays.

2. Lauren Rain Williams moves to No. 6 all-time in the 200m with her time of 22.8, run into a headwind of -1.0 meters per second! The time comes one week after running 22.44 (+2.5) at the Southern Section Division Finals, which does not count for record-keeping purposes because the wind was too high.

3. Zaria Francis upsets Rain Williams in the 100m. The USC commit cruised 11.83 (-1.2) to finish ahead of all-conditions US #1 Rain Williams and No. 2 all-conditions Celera Barnes. The defending 100m/200m California state champion started her season slow after sitting out with injury after New Balance Nationals.

4. Destiny Collins, Amanda Gehrich trade wins in the 3200m, 1600m. The seniors each won their championship event from last year's state meet: Collins ran 10:18.35 to take the 3200m ahead of Jennifer Sandoval (10:20.9), while Gehrich took third in 10:25.71. Gehrich, the Utah commit, utitlized her trademark kick to get past early leader Collins in the 1600m, 4:41.39 to 4:45.85. Gehrich's time ranks US #1 this year.

5. Fiona O'Keeffe runs US #3 3200m. The Stanford commit clocked a season-best effort of 10:08.65 to win the Sac-Joaquin Masters.

6. Great Oak puts four boys at 4:11 or better. They're the national record holders in the 4xMile for a reason. Great Oak High School decimated the boys 1600m at the Southern Section Masters: Isaac Cortes (first, 4:04.01), Spencer Dodds (second, 4:05.47), Solomon Fountain (8th, 4:10.28), Cole Spencer (9th, 4:11.69). They have said they plan to lower their 16:58.83 4xMile record at New Balance Nationals Outdoor. Cortes and Dodds' times rank No. 4 and No. 5 in the nation; Stanford commit Cortes also took second in the 800m behind Connor Dunne, 1:50.41 to 1:51.54.
