Stephanie Jenks Closes Prep Career With 11 Iowa State Titles
Every race was close, but Linn-Mar High School senior Stephanie Jenks closed an epic prep career with three gold medals at the Iowa State Championships this weekend.
The Cal commit will graduate with 11 outdoor track and field state titles: four straight in the 1500m and 3K, and three in the 800m.
All of her marks registered in the national rankings, as well: US No. 8, 4:29.21, in the 1500m; U.S. No. 5, 9:33.94, in the 3K; and U.S. No. 45, 2:10.56, in the 800m.
"It kind of hit me when I walked into the stadium," she said to Jeff Linder of The Gazette. "It was quite possibly the last time I'll run here. I could have cried right then and there."
Assumption junior Joy Ripslinger ran the fastest 800m of all classifications with her U.S. No. 5 mark of 2:07.51.
Kiana Phelps of Kingsley-Pierson threw U.S. No. 3, 172-1, to break the state meet record in the discus.
