State championships, state qualifying spots and conference titles are up for grabs in most areas of the nation this weekend. With such big stakes on the line one can expect some amazing performances. Keep checking back as MileSplit gives you the top highlights and results of this weekend.

UIL Championships (Texas State) (TX)

UIL Championships: Meet Page / Live Results

Saturday Highlights - The UIL Championships (Texas State Meet) concluded Saturday with many of the top athletes in the state competing. With 5A (the largest class) hosting all of their finals some top marks were expected. The top mark of the day in the field events perhaps happened in the boys long jump, which saw Marquise Goodwin (Garland Rowlett, TX) leap 26-01.50w. Goodwin's mark ranks him U.S. #1 currently by over half a foot. Goodwin also placed second in the 100m dash with a time of 10.38 and first in the triple jump with a mark of 50-00.50.

The top multiple event winner on the girls side was Erica Alexander (Friedsnd Ctr., TX). Alexander won a trio of event and showed just how dominant she is. The senior won the 100m dash in 11.40 and 200m dash in 23.53, while also winning the long jump in 19-06.50. Pearland (TX) teammates Jessica Flax (Pearland, TX) and Whitney Rose (Pearland, TX) also impressed with massive U.S. ranked performances. Flax won the 100m hurdles in 13.99, while Rose led three people over 40 feet in the triple jump with the star winning the event with a U.S. #3 leap of 41-10.75.

Two other teammates dominated Saturday's events. Lewisville (TX) followed the lead of Brandon Tucker (Lewisville, TX) and Markus Henderson (Lewisville, TX). Tucker won the 110m hurdles and 300m hurdles, both in U.S. top ten performances. In the 110's Tucker crushed the field with a 13.44w mark and came back to win the 300's in 36.38. Meanwhile, Henderson won the 200m dash in a U.S. top ten time in 20.80.

In the relays Garland Rowlett (TX) and Dallas Skyline (TX) dominated the 4x100m relays, running some of the fastest marks of all time. Garland Rowlett won the boys race in 40.26, a U.S. top twenty mark. Skyline meanwhile won the girls competition in 45.74.

In distance event action, Colby Lowe (Southlake Carroll, TX) won the boys 3200m run in 8:53.32, just missing the state record of 8:52.34 set back in 1987. Lowe dominated competition once again this season, winning the race by about 23 seconds. Later in the day Lowe bounced back to run 4:06.87 to win the 1600m run over Michael Cook (Magnolia, TX), who finished second in 4:08.88. Lowe's time ranks him U.S. #1 in the event.

Friday Highlights - Every year the UIL Championships (Texas State Meet) host some of the deepest, most talented fields you'll find anywhere all season long. It's not unusual to see a dozen or more U.S. #1 performances come out of this meet and this year is no exception. The best performance of Friday's action saw a U.S. #4 all-time mark in the girls 100m dash. Victoria Jordan (FW Dunbar, TX) shocked the field by winning the event in 11.16, leaving her .05 off the national record set by Angela Williams (CA) back in 1998.

Jordan's teammate, Ashley Collier (FW Dunbar, TX) scored another individual win for the squad with her 23.58 200m victory. Both Collier and Jordan teammed up to lead Fort Worth Dunbar (TX) to victories in the 4x100m relay and 4x200m relay as well. In the 4x1 Dunbar ran 45.17, while in the 4x2 Dunbar won with an impressive 1:36.17. Both victories rank the Dunbar relay squad U.S. top 15 all-time.

The top individual boys spring performance came from Kevin Hobson (Arlington Seguin, TX) who won the boy s 4A 200m dash in 20.96, a mark that ranks him U.S. #9 currently. The top relay mark came in the boys 4x200m relay which saw FW Eastern Hills (TX) win the boys 4A race in 1:25.96, U.S. #3, while Lancaster (TX) ran a U.S. #2 mark in the girls 4x400m relay with a time of 3:40.41. Lancaster won the event by over seven seconds.

While the sprint event stole much of the spotlight, some hurdle results were quite impressive as well. Leading the way were double hurdle champs Chance Casey (Crosby, TX) and Donique Flemings (Saginaw, TX). Casey won the boys 110m hurdles in 13.87, but his best performance was his dominating 4A 300m hurdle victory in 36.32. Casey's 300m hurdle time ranks him U.S. #1 in the event currently.

Meanwhile, Flemings was setting some history in her hurdle wins. Flemings crushed the field in the girls 4A 300m hurdles, winning by nearly two second in 40.96, good enough for a state record and U.S. #11 all-time. Flemings led off her day however with a close victory in the 100m hurdles. Flemings had to go all the way to the line to beat teammate Destiny Lumas (Saginaw, TX), pulling out the victory 13.52-13.56.

Hayden Baillio (Whitesboro, TX) and A'Lexus Brannon (Beaumont Ozen., TX) were the top performers in the field events Friday. Baillio earned the top marks regardless of classification with his discus and shot put victories. Baillio's discus mark of 184-11 was impressive, but his U.S. #4 mark of 66-01.25 was even more so. Brannon won double gold in the girls long jump and triple jump. She led the way with a U.S. #6 20-00.50 long jump performance in the early part of the day, then came back to score a U.S. top ten mark of 40-04 in the triple.

Two more field event marks that really got the crowd going were Ryan Green's (Crowley, TX) high jump win of 5-10 and Kendall Wright's (Pittsburg, TX) triple jump victory. Green equalled her season best in the performance, which also ranks her U.S. top ten. Wright lept 50-08.75, good enough for a U.S. #3 ranking in the latest MileSplit National Rankings.

The top distance performances of the day were outstanding as well. During the morning session, Kelsey Johnson (Iowa Park, TX) ran the fastest girls 3200m time of the day with her winning mark of 10:56.86. Johnson then came back in the afternoon session to win the 3A 1600m run in a strong 4:53.75. The top boys performance came from Zach Dawson (Big Spring, TX) in the 4A 1600m run. Dawson outkicked a deep field to win the event in one of the top times in the country of 4:10.23.

Georgia Olympics (Boys State Meet) (GA)

Top Performance: Christian Taylor (Sandy Creek, GA) U.S.#1's in TJ (52-06.50) & LJ (25-06)

Saturday Highlights - Saturday at the Georgia Olympics saw much of the same when it came to the top talent in the meet. As expected, Christian Taylor (Sandy Creek, GA) won the boys 400m dash in his classification, tying national leader Brendan O'Connor (FL) with a time of 46.50. Taylor then capped his fantastic weekend by guiding his team's 4x400m relay to victory. Taylor's weekend was simply perfect, winning all four events he competed in.

Another top sprint result came from D'Angelo Cherry (Mt. Zion, GA) who won the 100m dash in 10.33. The top performance of the entire day however came from hurdle sensation William Wynne (McEachern, GA). Wynne won the 110m hurdles in 13.52 and placed first in the 300m hurdles with a U.S. #1 time of 36.28.

Friday Highlights - While the majority of Thursday's events were comprised of field events, Friday hosted only track events. All the top athletes were out and showing that they are ready to do some damage in Saturday's finale. In 3A, Christian Taylor (Sandy Creek, GA) won his heat of the 400m dash by over a second in 47.19, while also guiding his team's relay squads to 4x100m and 4x400m relay top seed wins, advancing to Saturday's final.

The leader in 4A easily was D'Angelo Cherry (Mt. Zion, GA). Cherry busted loose in the 100m dash, winning his heat in 10.40, also the top time of the day regardless of classification. Another top highlight from the 4A ranks was Cedar Grove's (GA) 4x400m relay prelim win of 3:17.25. This gave the team the best mark not only in their classification but also the entire state. William Wynne (McEachern, GA) also lit up the track by winning his heat of the 110m and 300m hurdles. Wynne smoked the competition in each event, winning the 110's in 13.71 and 300's in 37.26. Wynne also helped his team to a 3:17.34 4x400m relay prelim win.

Thursday Highlights - What a way to kick off the weekend! The Georgia Olympics, also known as the Georgia Boys State T&F Championships, started with a bang Thursday evening. As expected, Christian Taylor (Sandy Creek, GA) won the long jump and triple jump in the AAA classification, but the way he did it will most likely be the most talked about results of the weekend. The Florida-bound jumper dominated each competition and lept to U.S. #1 rankings in each event. In the triple jump Taylor lept 52-06.50 to win by nearly three feet, while he earned a top mark of 25-06 in the long jump, winning that by nearly a foot and a half.

Meanwhile in other field event action, Wes Wright (Villa Rica, GA) won the AAA shot put with a throw of 60-10. Wright won the competition by over five feet, while also earning the top mark of the weekend in the event. In the high jump, D.J. Smith (Lovejoy, GA) won the AAAA event with a leap of 7-00, while Larry Henry (Bradwell Institute, GA) won the AAAAA competition clearing the same height. Both athletes set personal bests in the event and move into the U.S. top twenty. More highlights coming throughout weekend.

Arizona State T&F Championships (AZ)

Arizona State Champs: Best Coverage (AZTrackXC.com)

Saturday Highlights - State records are tough to break and from 1999 until 2005 not a single record was broken in boy's Track and Field until 2006 when Cylend Simmons from Westwood broke the 300H record by the slimmest of margins (.01). Last season the Desert Vista boys broke the state record in the 4 x 800 by two seconds. You would think a record that took 8 years to break would stand for awhile but last night the Desert Vista boys 4 x 800 team (3 juniors and a senior) broke their own state record by 2 1/2 seconds. The race started off with junior Nick Rice (pictured 2nd from left) who ran a sub 1:59 followed by junior Daryl Banks (pictured far left) who also ran a sub 1:59. Adam Estavillo (pictured far right) took the baton for the third leg running a 1:56.7 and John Kline (pictured 2nd from right) lit up the track with a 1:51.3 final leg. Friday Highlights - Three Footlocker finalists toed the line Thursday evening at the 5A-I State Championships. Nadya (pictured middle) and Nastia Bishton (pictured far left) (seniors, Mt. Ridge) and Jessica Tonn (pictured right) (sophomore, Xavier) pushed the pace right from the start.....they were there to race. By the time the three of them crossed the 200 mark they had already separated themselves from the rest of the field crossing the half way mark in 5:09. With one lap to go an offcial held up the 2 lap sign by mistake causing a few moments of confussion and the crowd to jump to their feet. Tonn won the race with a time of 10:30.55 breaking the sophomore state record of 10:33.11 set by Sarah Gordon in 1998 and winning her second 3200 state championship. Nadya Bishton finished second in 10:31.97 while Nastia finished in 10:35.42. A late surge by junior and Xavier teammate Sarah Penney put her in fourth place. Oklahoma State T&F Championships (OK)

Oklahoma State T&F Champs: Meet Page / Results: 5A - 6A

While much of the attention in the south focused on the Texas State Meet, the Oklahoma 5A-6A State T&F Championships were taking place and some great results came of them. Once again, the top performance of the weekend came from Geoffrey Tabor (Ardmore, OK). The Stanford-bound senior won the shot put and discus in the 5A championship, throwing 210-8 for the discus and 63-09.75 for the shot put. Tabor's cousin, Cameron Tabor (Norman, OK) won both events in the 6A championship, finishing with marks of 186-07 and 62-06.25.

In other action, Midwest City (OK) showed why they are the powerhouse of the state this season. On the girls side Midwest City won all three sprint relays, finishing with times of 47.47 for the 4x100m relay, 1:40.86 in the 4x200m relay and 3:55.13 in the 4x400m relay. Carissa Livingston (Midwest City, OK) sparked her squad to victory as well by winning the girls 6A 100m dash in 11.57 and 200m dash in 23.69.

The 6A field events showed some talent as well outside of Cameron Tabor. Jack Whitt (Norman North, OK) vaulted 16-07 to win the boys pole vault, while Midwest City's Alex Madkins won the boys long jump in 23-09.50 and high jump in 6-08. Constance Ezugha (Edmond Santa Fe, OK) dominated the girls long jump with a great leap of 19-04.50.

While 6A garnered much of the attention, a few 5A sprinters were making a case for themselves as well. Madeline Murrell (Duncan, OK) won the two hurdle events, winning the girls 100m hurdles in 14.97 and 300m hurdles in 45.83. David Gordon (E. Central, OK) won the boys 100m dash over a deep field in 10.58 and came back later in the day to win the boys 200m dash in 21.22.

Equally as impressive as Midwest City's girls sprint relays were the girls sprint relay results from Altus (OK). The 5A sprint powerhouse won the 4x100m relay in 47.97 and also took home the 4x200m relay title in 1:40.59, good enough for the top time on the day.

Mississippi State T&F Championships (MS)

Like many of the other state meets around the country this weekend, the Mississippi State Track and Field Championships offered many national level highlights. The top performer of the entire weekend was easily Tavaris Tate (Starkville, MS). The junior sprint sensation placed second in the 100m dash, while winning the 200m and 400m dashes in his classification. Tate's top performance was easily the 400m dash where he ran a U.S. #1 mark of 46.41. His other performances were 10.74w for 100m and 21.53 for 200m. Tate also split a 45.xx for his 4x400m relay leg.

After Tate's weekend the second best set of performances came from sophomore distance runner Cory McGee (Pass Christian, MS). McGee won the 800m, 1600m and 3200m runs, while also leading off her squads 4x400m relay. McGee ran strong in each race, winning with times of 2:14.20 for 800m, 4:56 for 1600m and 10:54 for 3200m. McGee's closest competitor came in the 800m dash which saw Katlyn Will place a close second in 2:14.21.

In other track action Horatio Williams and Brittany Covington performed exceptionally well. Williams won the 100m dash with a speedy 10.34w, easily the fastest time of the weekend regardless of classification. Covington won the girls 300m hurdles in a time of 44.25. Perhaps the best individual performance of the entire weekend came from Ricky Robertson in winning the boys high jump with a U.S. #2 performance of 7-02.

Neely Spence Runs U.S. #4 1600m in 4:44.38 (PA)

There haven't been a lot of PA girls in the 4:40's in the 1600 in recent years. So having two in the same week is extremely rare.

But this one will go down in the books as a cause and effect. The cause was the 4:46.7 1600 that was run by 800 meter specialist Chanelle Price of Easton at the LVIAC Championships on May 7th. Price's time eclipsed the meet record of one Frances Koons, a Foot Locker Finalist, state champion in the 1600 and current all-American runner for Villanova. It also bypassed this year's then-PA#1 4:48.51 of Shippensburg distance specialist Neely Spence (pictured left by Don Rich).

So when a talented distance runner sees a time like Price's go on the books and knows it's top five in the U.S. and #1 in the state, it can get the competitive juices flowing.

Hence, the effect.

"Yes, definitely," said Spence shortly after she ran a US#4 4:44.38 at the May 10 Mid-Penn Conference Champs, when she was asked if Price's time affected her race strategy. Top Performance: Dan Block (Lake Park, IL) 201-08 Discus

Perhaps the best throws match-up of the entire weekend took place Thursday evening at St. Charles North High School. The Upstate Eight Conference Championships pinned U.S. #8 discus thrower Dan Block (Lake Park, IL) against U.S. #9 Brett Einbecker (Waubonsie Valley, IL). It's rare that such match-ups take place outside of a major invitational or state meet, but here they were, two of the nation's best going head-to-head.

With a newly poured pit and gusting winds, Einbecker fouled on his first throw, while Block came out and launched a 173-01 to set the tone for the rest of the day. On Block's second throw he furthered his state record by three inches, letting it fly 201-08. Einbecker tried to respond with a 179-07.50 mark on his final throw of the first round. In the finals Einbecker had one last chance to surpass Block but came up just short with a 197-06.50 effort, but left him with a new personal best and less than three feet away from the magical 200 mark. Block's last throw was his second best of the day, going 195-10.

The other highlights of the day came in the distance events. Powerful distance squads Neuqua Valley (IL), Waubonsie Valley (IL) and St. Charles North (IL) all showed their best, which created some impressive performances. Neuqua Valley won the 4x800m relay in 8:03.19, with Chris Derrick anchoring the squad with a 1:56.7.

In the 3200m run Jim Riddle (Neuqua Valley, IL) and Chris DeSilva (St. Charles North, IL) battled it out with Riddle leading most of the race. Heading through the 1600m mark in 4:41 and looking strong, Riddle tried to break at 1700m and again at 2800m, but both times DeSilva came back. With one lap to go Riddle tried to shake DeSilva but DeSilva fought back and passed Riddle with a furious kick, closing in 61 seconds and winning 9:12.52 to 9:16.76. DeSilva and Riddle will be rooming together next year at the University of Illinois. U of I distance coach Wendel McRaven was on hand and joked, "whoever wins this gets the top bunk."

In the 1600m run Chris Derrick (Neuqua Valley, IL) showed once again why he's one of the best. Despite a chilly temperature and gusting winds, Derrick went out in 63.3 for his first 400m, came through the half in 2:07.8 (64.5), and hit the 1200m mark in 3:13.1 (65.3). At this point Derrick had a large lead of 65 meters, but still managed to close in 61.2 and finish in 4:14.36.
