The U.S. Olympic Trials standard is 3:38.00, which converts to 3:55.37 for the mile.
The national high school record for the 1500m is 3:38.26 and the record for the mile is 3:53.43, both set by Alan Webb in 2001. Jim Ryun ranks No. 2 in both events: 3:39.0 in the 1500m (1964) and 3:55.3 in the mile (1965). Hunter's indoor times rank No. 3 all-time.
