Great Oak Boys Break Week-Old 4x1600 National Record
The second most recent national record in the boys 4xMile/1600 lasted forty years. The most recent one lasted a week. After running 16:55.85 for a new high school record last week, the Great Oak boys ran 16:52.95 at Mt. SAC to lower their own national standard by just less than three seconds. There are no official splits yet, but the lineup was Solomon Fountain, Cole Spencer, Isaac Cortes, and Spencer Dodds. Dodds anchored (like he did at Arcadia) and closed hard to break the record.
Last week at Arcadia, the Wolfpack boys ran fresh. This week, they ran the 4x800 a few hours before. That did not stop them from becoming the best 4x1600 squad in high school history.
