Caitlin Collier Takes Down Nevada Mareno In Dream Mile Qualifier
The first qualifiers to the adidas Dream Mile are sophomore Caitlin Collier from Bolles, Florida, and senior Frank Pittman from Marist, Georgia.
Collier and Pittman won the qualifying races at the Raleigh Relays at North Carolina State on Friday.
In her debut at the full mile distance, Collier beat 2015 New Balance Nationals Indoor mile champion Nevada Mareno. The sophomore has not raced much out-of-state and entered the competition with a personal best of 4:51.6 for 1600m. The race is Mareno's first since placing third at Foot Locker Nationals in December.
In the boys' race, Pittman clocked a nation-leading 4:13.2 to outpace the field by three seconds. Waleed Suliman of Douglas Freeman, Virginia, ran 4:16.12 for second place.
The elite 3200s were also quick: Logan Morris of South Carolina won the girls' race in US #8 10:40.00, and Kenny Kneisel won the boys' race in US #3 8:57. Kneisel's previous best was 9:08.
