National Weekend Rundown for March 19

Tyrese Cooper Returns To Action Two Days After New Balance

In case you were still wondering just how good Tyrese Cooper is, the freshman phenom from Miami Gardens Xpress T.C./American High School didn't let up after an All-American weekend at New Balance Nationals Indoor.

Cooper competed just in the prelims at the GMAC Championships, but still clocked 10.67 in the 100m, 21.27 in the 200m and 48.02 in the 400m. None are a season-best for the three-event national leader, who has clocked 10.49 (+1.5), 20.68 (+0.8) and 46.43 this outdoor season. But he did hop on the anchor leg for American's 4x400m Relay (pictured above), who clocked U.S. No. 5 3:15.79.

In New York this weekend, Cooper took fourth in the Championship 60m and set a National Freshman Class Record of 21.22 in the prelims of the 200m.

Other notable results:

  • U.S. No. 1 ranked 400m runner Symone Mason won the quarter mile in 53.76; teammate Kayla Johnson ran 54.14; the girls combined to run 3:45.5 in the 4x400m, though Miami Northwestern already ranks U.S. No. 2 with SB of 3:45.19
  • U.S. No. 1 ranked 200m runner Twanisha Terry won the 100m and 200m in 12.03/24.17
