Cuban Athletes Bring Excellence To New Balance Nationals Indoor

Four standout Cuban athletes will compete at New Balance Nationals Indoor (NBNI) this weekend at the New York Armory. The delegation includes Christian Napoles, the 2015 World Youth Championships (WYC) gold medalist in the triple jump who owns a PR of 54-0; and Yanna Anay Armenteros, the WYC silver medalist in the triple jump who recorded the farthest jump by a youth last year in 44-3.25.

Both Napoles and Armenteros will compete in the triple jump in New York.

Roxana Gomez will compete in the Girls 400m; she placed fifth at the WYC with a time of 52.79.

A fourth member of the delegation, Edel Rogelio Amores, will compete in the Boys 200m. He owns a PR of 21.04, set in the finals of the WYC last summer.

The Cuban athletes' presence in New York makes for a full circle exchange program via the National Scholastic Athletics Association (NSAF), which organizes the NBN championships. Last May, NSAF took a group of 28 elite American preps to Havana to compete in the Caribbean Scholastic Invitational. NSAF will return to Havana for the event this May 27-28.

The four athletes will be available for interview at a press conference this Saturday, March 12 at 11:30 a.m. in the theater room of The Armory.
