3. Darius Carbin Can't Stay On The Ground
Darius Carbin surely must have the springiest legs in America, or at least out of anyone who competed this weekend in high school track. He excelled in three events that require technical aptitude and the slightly more difficult to define "bounce." Carbin won the high jump by clearing seven feet--making the second high schooler in the country this year to do so--did well in the hurdles, and won the triple jump with a US #10 mark of 47-11.25. If a Carbin-Jaron Brooks matchup materializes at New Balance, the high jump could be one of the juiciest events there.
As an added bonus, Carbin received one of his championship medals on Saturday from 1988 400H Olympic gold medallist Andre Phillips--who went to the same middle school in San Jose as Carbin.
Carbin is headed to Georgia, where Petros Kyprianou has made a living molding versatile athletes into NCAA point machines. But he's got four months of high school to conquer first.
