Drew Hunter Could Break 4:00, And The Armory Track Invite Offers So Much More

Mid-Distance

Boys 600
4:00 Saturday

Three of the top five and five of the top nine nationally will be converging at the Armory. US #1 Rodney Agyare-May, #3 Infinite Tucker#5 Shavanes Robinson, #6 Kemarni Mighty, and #9 Derald Coleman will be facing off in the three-lapper in Fort Washington.

The national record of 1:28.78 seems in serious danger of not reaching a second birthday. After a showdown at 500 meters never materialized thanks to snow, Sammy Watson and Sarah Walker will go head to head in a race that's a hundred meters longer. Watson is the current US #2 in the 600, and Walker is currently second in the nation in the 800; perhaps more saliently, the duo went 1-2 (Watson-Walker) at New Balance outdoors in 2015. Though the insanely versatile Watson is the favorite, she'll be mildly worn down by the 1K from Friday night.

7:43 Friday

In Watson's first event of the weekend, she'll race US #8 Sophie Cantine #8, who will have come all the way from Washington state to race.

Boys 1K
7:25 Friday

Two of the nation's top four athletes in the kilo--US #2 Brandon McGorty and #4 Jake Johnson--are joined by Conor Lundy and Aidan Tooker, the only two high schoolers who have broken 4:10 in the mile this season. And US #8 800 runner Jaxson Hoey is crashing the party, too. Robby Andrews's 2:22.28 meet and national record is probably out of the question--that's a 1:53-high 800 without slowing down over the last 200, and only McGorty has even broken 1:53 for an all-out 800 this season. But the 2:25.45 #10 spot on the all-time performers list seems attainable.
