12/19 Weekend In Review: One World Record, One National Record And More

Aidan Tooker Is The Fastest December Prep Miler In History

U.S. No. 1 4:09.38 Mile | Armory Hall of Fame Invitational (NY)

Two weeks after placing a disappointing 37th at Nike Cross Nationals, senior Aidan Tooker of Saratoga Springs, N.Y. ran 4:09.38 for the full mile at the Armory Hall of Fame Invitational in New York. The time ranks No. 1 in the nation this year, which does not mean much on its own merit as the nation's most elite distance runners competed at national cross country championships over the past two weekends. However, Tooker's time is the fastest-ever indoor prep mile run in the month of December and ranks No. 4 All-Time in the state of New York -- those ahead of him in the Empire State threw down their marks at larger events such as the Millrose Games and New Balance Indoors.

Tooker's prior PR was 4:11.56 from the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix. He said his main goals for indoor are breaking his PRs, including 8:50 for two miles.

"This is a big surprise," he said of the PR. "I guess it only raises the bar, which is a good thing."

The time ranks No. 44 on the U.S. All-Time Indoor List.
