No. 13 ranked Grace Ping of Winona Cotter qualified for her first Minnesota state meet on Thursday afternoon by dominating the Section 1A field by more than two minutes. The seventh-grader ran 17:48 over 5,000 meters. She owns a personal best of 17:23 this fall.
Ping is undefeated this season and rose to national fame after winning the Roy Griak Invitational in September over Judy Pendergast of Naperville North, who has since run the nation's two fastest three mile times with a best of 16:06. She plans to pursue a state title and a berth at the NXN Championships.
