Saturday Recap
Austin Tamagno Victorious On Friday Night
All eyes were on course record holder Austin Tamagno of Brea Olinda in the last race on Friday evening, the Boys D3 Sweepstakes Race. All eyes, that is - except for those belonging to David Frisbie of Kennedy High School, who instead shot out like a dart ahead of the No. 2 ranked harrier in the nation.
Frisbie charged out to 2:17 at 800 meters with a significant lead on the field. By 1600 meters, that lead shrunk to four seconds as he passed the mark in 4:40 and Tamagno at 4:44.
Tamagno, undefeated this year, pulled even with Frisbie around the six minute mark then started to push his own pace to cross through two miles in 9:48. From then, he was on his own. The senior was hoping to beat his course of 14:23, which he set last year with the aid of early pace pusher Robert Brandt.
But Tamagno did not have quite enough help at the front this go-round, instead, crossing the line with a final time of 14:37.

Will Tamagno's time stand as the fastest of the weekend? Track fans unfortunately were unable to witness a meeting of the giants between Tamagno and No. 5 ranked Phillip Rocha of Arcadia, whom is also undefeated this year, as Tamagno is taking the ACT tomorrow morning. Rocha will look to win the Team Sweepstakes tomorrow morning at 9:29 PST.
The fastest girls' time of the evening belonged to Rio Rico, Az. junior Allie Schadler, whose 17:15 clocking for three miles won her section by nearly 90 seconds.
