Before you dive into the boys and girls team and individual previews for tomorrow's Utah state cross country championship, there are a few things to know.
-We posted a gigantic stat dump here that contains the top 500 Sugarhouse Park times for every classification and all five classifications combined, and virtual meet projections for all ten races. (Note that all schools are listed in their current classifications; for example, if an athlete ran 15:30 in 2002 in the 2A race, and that school has since grown to 4A size, that athlete's performance would be on the 4A list.)
-All start times listed are local/Mountain time.
-The hills and the Salt Lake City altitude (4260 feet) combine to make Sugarhouse one of the slowest permanent state championship courses in the United States. Only two boys--all-time greats Luke Puskedra and Ben Saarel--have ever broken 15:00 on the three mile course. For context, this season alone has had 157 boys under 15:00 for three miles and 333 boys under the 5k equivalent of 15:35.
