Noah Affolder Wins Again, Unranked Downington West Steals Title

Noah Affolder of Carthage, N.Y. ran 12:14.3 to win the Eastern States division of the Manhattan Invitational by seven seconds and remain undefeated on the year.

Jeremy Brown of Broughton, N.C. took runner-up honors in 12:21.8, as his team also took runner-up honors with 192 points.

The surprise team winner was unranked Downington West of Pa., who outscored No. 20 Broughton with 177 points in large part of the efforts of brothers Josh and Jaxson Hoey, who finished eighth (12:28) and ninth (12:29) overall. Downington West finished with a 52-second top five spread and 12:52 average time.

No. 7 ranked Blaise Ferro made his season debut with a 12th place, 12:31 effort, which was off his projected finish but still enough to propel No. 2 ranked CBA of N.J. to third place in the team scoring. He placed fifth last year with a time of 12:21.

No. 8 Liverpool and No. 23 Fayetteville-Manlius, both of New York, took fourth and fifth place overall with 209 and 228 points, respectively. No. 20 Ben Petrella, fresh off his McQuaid victory last weekend, was fifth overall in 12:23.8 to lead Liverpool, while FM's top runner in No. 18 ranked Peter Ryan placed 20th in 12:40.

No. 15 D.J. Principe of La Salle, R.I. took 18th place overall with a time of 12:36. Another top ranked runner making his debut was No. 11 Conor Lundy of Fordham Prep, N.Y., who ran 12:58 for 36th place overall.
