Meaghan Doody of Oyster River set a new course record of 17:41 on the hilly Derryfield Park course to win the Small Schools race at the Manchester Invitational. The senior cut nearly a minute from last year's mark (18:35), which she ran before qualifying to NXN.
The mark is historic in that it broke the 17:42 meet record set back in 1993 - before Doody was even born.
Her teammate, Patrick O'Brien, ran the fastest boys time of the day in 15:49.
The Coe Brown girls, who ran at NXN last year, convincingly won the Large Schools race with a total of 64 points, 19:17 5k average on the tough course and a 1:21 spread within the top five runners. They could be a bubble team to the Saucony Flo50 after this performance.
