Over 40 teams came to Monument Valley Park to compete on the sun-toasted trails of the Coronado Cougar Classic.

The sun was similarly responsible for the red in the thermometer migrating just north of 80 degrees. The course was dusty and hot.

The Division I boys rounded the classic course first. The typical 4A, 5A crowd of Div I shared with some notables in purple and orange from 3A.

Taylor Stack represented the purple of Salida. He paced the leaders by less than the length of his shadow until the 3K where he pressured the field up the course's lone hill. The move paid dividends in the last mile as Stack finished in 15:59.3, five seconds ahead of Maximilliano Martinez of Widefield.

Stack hopes to remain focused thought the second half of the season as he looks towards late October.
