MATCHUP ONE
1) Matthew Maton become the sixth US prep ever to break 4:00 in the full mile, running 3:59.38. He did this at Hayward Field at the University of Oregon, his soon to be college. The picture above is him with former Oregon Duck and NCAA Champion Mac Fleet.
2) As just a sophomore Madison Wiltrout set the Javelin National Record of 185-8. The Pennsylvania star broke the previous national record by 4.5 feet.
1) Allie Ostrander had immense pressure on her as the favorite enter 2014 Nike Cross Nationals. She recently had her "On the Rise" series released about her on MileSplit, which intensified the pressure but showed that she has been training on her own (sometimes with a teammate on the boys' team) and that teammate and her wrote up a training plan for herself since their state meet in the beginning of October. Needless to say, Ostrander took home the victory.
2) Anna Rohrer also came into New Balance Nationals Indoor in a pressure situation. She has the reigning Foot Locker XC Champion and was the favorite to win the 5K at NBNI. She also just came off of a MileSplit "On the Rise" series shoot just days before her 5k. Well, the favorite didn't disappoint. Not only do Rohrer win, but she set the Indoor 5k National Record in 16:10.79
1) On June 6, 2015 Vista Murrieta's Michael Norman arguably ran the best sprint triple in US high school sprint history. A day after running 200m, 400m, and 4x100m prelims at the California State Meet, the junior came back the next day to run U.S. No. 6 all-time in both the 200m and 400m running 20.30 and 45.19. To put the cherry on top of this historic day, Norman split 44.9 on his 4x400m anchor leg to bring his team from 7th to 3rd and help them solidify Vista Murrieta's first ever overall team state title.
2) Mikey Brannigan had a variety of memorable races this year, but what makes this one in particular a memorable moment is that Brannigan, who was diagnosed with autism at 18 months old, officially set the T20 1500m World Record with his 3:48.85. The T20 signifies runners who have an intellectual impairment. The Northport senior accomplished this feat at the US Paralympics Track and Field National Championships in St. Paul, Minnesota, only a few days after the Brooks PR 2 Mile in Seattle.
1) In the final event of the Texas UIL State Meet, Humble Kingwood's 4x400m anchor DeWitt Thomas (pictured above in blue) laid it all on the line, literally, to help his team defeat Manvel (in white) by .04. Kingwood won in 3:12.44. At the time the two marks were U.S. No. 3 and No. 4.
2) On July 4th Lexi Weeks set the Outdoor Pole Vault National Record by .5 inch jumping 14-7.5. This marked the first day when the Weeks twins held both the indoor and outdoor pole vault national records, because less than three weeks earlier Tori Weeks broke the indoor national record of 14-3.25, which belonged to her sister, by jumping 14-4. The Weeks Twins cemented themselves as the most dominant American high school pole vaulting twins ever.
