15. Jack Jibb (NY) - Boys 2K Steeplechase Champion
Jack Jibb, the Monroe-Woodbury (NY) senior and Foot Locker finalist from this past fall, had won the New York 3K steeple title the weekend before in 8:57.34. Dropping down to 2K distance for New Balance Nationals, Jibb proved himself just as efficiently clearing the barriers over 5 laps with his first national title in 5:50.71. Nine seconds off the national record set by Bailey Roth in last year's New Balance Nationals Outdoor, but 3rd fastest all-time from the steepler's stronghold state of New York.
Jibb, who prefers the longer version of the event, led from the start and continued to create a gap on his top challenger in Luke Anderson from Michigan. Jibb, who has open PR's of 4:20 in the 1600 and 9:21 in the 3200, eventually won by a decisive margin of 13 seconds with Anderson slipping back to a third place.
