Watch Donavan Brazier Even Split US #4 All-Time 1:47.55 800m

Donavan Brazier of Grand Rapids Kenowa Hills, Mich. ran 1:47.55 to cap an undefeated spring with not only a win at the Brooks PR Invitational 800m, but the fourth-fastest time in prep school history.

The entire pack stuck together for a 53-second opening quarter but at the bell lap, the Texas A&M recruit turned it on to pull away and finish nearly three seconds clear of the field.

Brazier's three previous races were all solo runs under the 1:48 mark. The only blemish on an otherwise undefeated 2015 was a third place, All-American finish at the New Balance Nationals Indoor Championship.

"I'm kind of scared getting boxed in, so I need to eliminate that by getting out the first 200," he said of his front-running style.

He criticized the Men's 800m at the NCAA Championship for going out in 56 seconds - the same pace as the Women ran for their opening quarter.

"It's starting to bug me how everything is starting to become a sit and kick race. Like the 15's been for so many years but to see it in an 8 is surprising."

Brazier will race the 800m next weekend at the USATF Junior National Championship.
