This event is going to be a showdown between U.S. #2 Sharrika Barnett from Oak Ridge, Florida and U.S. #3 Sammy Watson from Rush-Henrietta, New York. They're only separated by two tenths of a second! Barnett finished second in the championship race last year at New Balance Nationals Outdoor, while Watson finished second in the freshman race last year at New Balance Nationals Outdoor and won the indoor national meet in the 800m.
Two other runners to watch who have experience running at New Balance Nationals are Serenity Douglas and Destiny Ward, who took seventh and eighth at New Balance Indoor Nationals this past winter. Douglas also finished third at New Balance Nationals Outdoor last year.
