OUR RATIONALE...
Boys Mile

B Miles | Grant Fisher is still a cut above the rest of this field and he has proven to be unbeatable when its time to make that final move late in all of his national championship races. More compelling to see the race between potentially next year's likely champions in Drew Hunter from Virginia and Austin Tamagno from California. Could one of these two guys become the eighth sub 4 minute high school runner in U.S. history next spring? A 4:02/4:03 race here from either would build that momentum for sure. |
Bryan | Fisher has gone sub four! He’s one of only 7 preps ever to break sub 4 running a U.S. #3 All-Time 3:59.38. This kid knows how to run in a competitive field. The second spot for me goes to Brannigan as he ranks fourth in the country right now with a time of 4:05.78, and he’s a New York guy, being from NY myself I’ve got to represent the home state! The Last spot on my list goes to Carlos Villarreal, because his current time of 4:05.25 ranks him third in the country just behind Maton & Fisher both guys who broke sub four. He took first at the Pre Classic only a few weeks ago where he ran that U.S. No. 3 time. |
David | While there are some amazing runners in this field, it’s Grant Fisher’s race to lose. Fresh off of a sub-four, this guy just can’t be beat. That being said, the race for second is going to be phenominal. I like Carlos Villarreal to run a big PR here. He won Pre against a loaded field with a monster kick. The fast pace set by the rabbit and then Grant Fisher will surely help. Staying in order from that Pre, I like Brannigan for third. He has incredible range with a 1:51.87 and a 8:42.92. He won’t have to do a lot of the work like he did at Eugene which could help him beat Villarreal this time around. |
Boys 100m

B Miles | Michael Norman has been simply superhuman out in California this year in the 200 and 400, but still has this fairly weak 100 PR of 10.73 from a dual meet last spring. It is due to the fact that he hasn't run a 100 all season long! He just ran back to back 10.15's in his US #1 20.30 200 at the Cali state meet. Think he comes away with a big new PR dropping 4 tenths of his time, but it will be tight with him and Haraway who just clocked a 10.22 wind-aided time at Great Southwest. This race will also introduce the nation to arguably next year's top returning 100 meter sprinter in Tavien Feaster from South Carolina to grab third place. |
Bryan | Feaster has the fastest time in the field with his wind legal 10.42. Although Norman is the fastest 200m and 400m runner in the country this year, I have him just behind Feaster in second, simply because this is not a 200m race. He can run the 100m which we’ve seen him do on his 4x100m team so he should be right in the mix. Ian Mack takes the third spot on my list because of his 10.44 which ranks him U.S. No.9 and the second fastest entire in the field. |
David | Michael Norman would win this race without a doubt if it was a 400m, probably even a 200m….but it’s not. This is a 100m and you have the reigning National Champ in the event - Darryl Haraway. This is his final race as a high schooler so watch for him to go out on a high note. Norman second, and rounding out the field will be Ian Mack, the Nevada State Champ. |
