Boys Mile

1. Grant Fisher (Grand Blanc, MI - Sr.) - Just this past week at the Festival of Miles, Fisher became the second prep to break sub four this year, which is the first that has ever happened in the same season! Fisher’s U.S. #3 All-Time performance of 3:59.38 last Thursday night makes him only the seventh prep ever to break the four minute barrier. Earlier this spring the 4-time national champion including two New Balance Nationals Indoor mile titles, ran a U.S #5 All-Time 3:42.89 1500m, against a college field at his future home track of Stanford University.

2. Matthew Maton (Summit, OR - Sr.) - Maton was the first to break the 4:00 minute barrier this spring before Fisher running against a professional field of athletes at the Oregon Twilight meet. Both have identical mile PR's of 3:59.38 as Maton shares the honor of US #3 all-time performer in the mile with Fisher. An achilles injury has kept Maton out of races since his historic race at historic Hayward Field, but hopes to make one last return to racing before summer's end. Prior to his 3:59 mile, Maton had put together a great string of races running unattached from high school including a US #3 all-time 3:42.54 1500 putting him behind only Alan Webb and Jim Ryun.

3.Andrew Hunter (Loudoun Valley, VA - Jr.) - Hunter joined the likes of World silver medalist Matthew Centrowitz as the only runners in Penn Relays meet history to win both Penn Relays high school titles in the 3k as well as the mile. Following up his 2014 win in the 3K at Franklin Field, the 2015 New Balance National Indoor champ Hunter won the mile at this year's Penn Relays in a personal best time of 4:07.15. He also holds the second fastest 1600 meter time in the country at 4:03.88, just behind Fisher’s time of 3:57.93.

4. Carlos Villarreal (Rio Rico, AZ - Sr.) - Villarreal won the Prefontaine Classic this year in dramatic fashion with a late kick in a new personal best time of 4:05.25. That time ranks him U.S. #3 behind only Fisher and Maton. He also added Ariziona Divison 3 state titles this spring in the 800m (1:54.23) and 1600m (4:03.97) to his credentials. He has shown a remarkable improvement from last spring when he placed 19th in the mile last year at New Balance Nationals Outdoor.

5. Mike Brannigan (Northport, NY - Sr.) - The US leader at 3200 meters, Brannigan ran a gutsty race at the Prefontaine Classic and nearly came up with the win before settling for runner-up to Villarreal with a time of 4:05.78. Earlier this year, Brannigan finished second in the mile at Penn Relays to Drew Hunter with another sub 4:10 mile performance. Brannigan is the reigning New Balance Nationals outdoor mile champion in the two mile as she clocked a time of 8:53.59 last June in Greensboro.

6. Austin Tamagno (Brea Olinda, CA - Jr.) - This junior finally got the win he's been fighting for. Tamagno has run a 4:09 at the California State meet the past three years, improving on his place each year. As a freshman he placed third, as a sophomore second, and now as a junior first, running a 4:08.72. His mile time of 4:06.26 is ranked U.S. #5, which he ran to win the Azusa Meet of Champions in late March.

7. Joe Klecker (Hopkins, MN - Sr.) - Just this past weekend the senior ran two impressive solo performances winning both the 3200m (8:57.76), and 1600m (4:06.54) Minnesota State Class AA meet. Klecker's time of 4:06.54 makes him the all-time Minnesota state record holder in the 1600m. The Minnesota recored holder has been undefeated in both the 1600m and 3200m races this year.

8. Ryan Adams (Cuyahoga Valley, OH - Sr.) - Adams ran a 4:07.12 1600m which he ran solo repeating as the Ohio Division 2 state champion. He had one of the better state meet performances from last weekend, and has been fire as of late as he was able to break 4:10 in the 1600m twice in the month of May. The senior has dropped nine seconds off his 1600m time, in just one year.

9. Avery Bartlett (Chiles, FL - Sr.) - Bartlett won the Golden South Classic in a time of 4:08.55 beating out Conner Mantz by two tenths of a second (4:08.57). The senior is both the Florida state 1600m (4:12.76) and 800m (1:53.10) champion.
