With many top teams competing at conference or state-series meets, 17 of the 20 ranked teams showed results. Boys US #1 Albuquerque Academy won a clash of New Mexico titans, as they beat US #9 Los Alamos at the Los Alamos Invitational, while Girls US #1 Fayetteville-Manlius had the weekend off. MileSplit National Team Power Rankings - Weekend Wrap-Up
Boys
1. Albuquerque Academy (NM) - The national match-up of the weekend took place at the Los Alamos Invitational in New Mexico. Albuquerque Academy went head-to-head against US #9 Los Alamos. The race proved to be everything folks were expecting, as the Academy beat Los Alamos in a tight battle, 38-45. Ben Johnson led his AA squad, winning the race in 15:30.
2. Neuqua Valley (IL) - Neuqua Valley easily won the Normal Sectional, beating runner-up Lincoln-Way East 32-95. NV placed their top five in 1, 3, 6, 10 and 12 overall. Next week is their state championship, where #2 man Jim Riddle returns from a stress fracture.
3. Danbury (CT) - Won the Class "LL" Championships in grand fashion. Scoring a mere 29 points, Danbury placed their top seven in the top 13 team spots, running as a tight pack most of the way. Their nine second split 1-5 crushed runner-up Glastonbury by 59 points.
4. North Central (WA) - North Central won the Eastern 3A Regional scoring a mere 23 points. Placing 1, 4-8, 11, North Central showed they are the top team in Washington. Andrew Kimpell led the way winning the individual title, as the team spotted a 27 second split.
5. Wheat Ridge (CO) - Won their state meet 100-132 over a tough Arapahoe squad. Wheat Ridge used a nice 1:07 split, placing their top two runners in third and sixth respectively.
6. Crater (OR) - Junior Zach Elliott led the charge for Crater at their District meet, as the team topped OR #3 Klamath Union and OR #4 Ashland rather easily. Crater used five in the top nine to trounce second place Ashland 26-41.
7. Brookline (MA) - Easily won the BSC Championships during the weekend. Using a strong pack, Brookline again marched to victory.
8. North Penn (PA) - Won their district championships with 92 points, easily advancing to the state championships next weekend.
9. Los Alamos (NM) - Over the past few weeks it seemed as though Los Alamos had inched their way towards being able to hang with US #1 Albuquerque Academy. However, as the two squared off this past weekend, Los Alamos was reminded that they still have work to do. LA lost to AA at the Los Alamos Invitational 38-45.
10. Wheaton North (IL) - Took a very disappointing fifth place at the Schaumburg Sectional Saturday. Despite a 42 second split, North's 2-3 runners were too far back from the other 2-3 runners in the race. However, they get a chance to redeem themselves next weekend at the Illinois State Cross Country Championships.
Girls
1. Fayetteville-Manlius (NY) - Idle. No weekend competition as sectionals looms.
2. Saugus (CA) - Idle. No weekend competition after Mt. SAC the prior weekend.
3. Eldorado (NM) - Easily won the Los Alamos Invitational at 7,000+ feet. Eldorado beat state-ranked Gallup 32-77, placing four in the top seven. Front runner Rachel Velarde won the individual title for the squad in 18:58.
4. Mountain Brook (AL) - Competing at the Hoover Invitational, Mountain Brook decimated the competition, sweeping the top three spots and placing six more from 8-15. The squad won the team title 24-47 over Scottsboro.
5. Saratoga Springs (NY) - Facing US #7 Burnt-Hills yet again at the SSC Championships, Saratoga Springs won yet again, this time 33-44. The team's momentum the past few weeks continues to rise. Hannah Davidson won the wet 3.05 mile race in 17:09.
6. Westfield (IN) - Competing in their state championship, Westfield won big over in-state rival Lake Central 81-114, winning yet another state title. The squad's leaders, Maggie Bingham and Kaitlyn Love, once again led the charge finishing in fourth and ninth respectively.
7. Burnt-Hills (NY) - The team had a chance to redeem their loss to US #5 Saratoga Springs last week, however that chance faded as Saratoga Springs beat B-H 33-44 at the SSC Championships during the weekend.
8. Fort Collins (CO) - Many suspected Fort Collins would lose to Dakota Ridge in the 5A Colorado State Championships Saturday, however, FC thought they had a chance. However, Dakota Ridge proved to be even stronger than most suspected, as Fort Collins lost 28-87. Lisa Reyna led Fort Collins in third place.
9. Yankton (SD) - Season Completed.
10. Jesuit (OR) - Jesuit easily won the Metro CC District Championships. Their top seven placed: 1, 2, 3, 5, 7, 8, 10.
