The Los Alamos Invitational showcased the top talent in New Mexico Friday evening. The boys varsity race became the main attraction, as US #1 Albuquerque Academy beat US #9 Los Alamos in a very tight battle 38-45. Alb. Acad. senior Ben Johnson won by 42 seconds, showing his Foot Locker potential. On the girls side, US #3 Eldorado showed why they are ranked so high, winning the team title by 45 points.

US #1 Albuquerque Academy had their hands full Friday night versus US #9 Los Alamos at the Los Alamos Invitational. These two teams battle a few times during the season, with this race being their last regular season competition. Just like meets earlier in the season, Albuquerque Academy won the invitational, followed closely by Los Alamos. Using a strong 1, 5, 6 top three, and more importantly 12, 14 for their 4-5 runners, Academy beat Los Alamos 38-45.
Leading the way for the Red Army (AA), senior Ben Johnson won the race in an amazing performance, dominating from the gun, finishing in 15:30 on the 5k course that has an altitude of 7,000+ feet. Johnson beat runner-up Allen Pittman (Los Alamos) by 42 seconds, showing his Foot Locker favorite form.
The girls race equally entertained as US #3 Eldorado easily won the team title 32-77 over Gallup. Eldorado placed four in the top seven, and their fifth at 17, to easily capture the crown. Once again led by frontrunner Rachel Velarde, the frontrunner finished first in 18:58, 34 seconds ahead of second place finisher Jordan Brown (Gallup).
