Calabar (JAM) will enter the COA 4x100m Final with the 3rd fastest time, 41.36
Recap: Running in the small schools section left St. Jago (JAM) with the fastest time (41.30) of the day for quite some time. It wasn't until the middle of the large school division when Kingston College (JAM) busted out a 41.12, giving them the fastest qualifying time overall and leaving St. Jago as the second fastest qualifier. Alton Mckenzie, a former Calabar, JAM runner, joined us in the booth and said Akeem Bloomfield (2nd leg for Kingston College) was "the next [Usain] Bolt." Bloomfield may be the fastest HS sprinter at the Penn Relays, but it takes four speedsters to earn the coveted wheel.
TC Williams (VA) could be America's best hope to keep the winning COA wheel in the US
Of the eight teams that qualified for tomorrow's 4x100m Championship of America Final, five of them eclipsed the 42.00 mark. The other three teams to accomplish that feat were Calabar, JAM (41.36), St. George's, JAM (41.41) and TC Williams, VA (41.71), the top American school from last year's COA 4x100m Final.
The other US schools to join TC Williams and the Lyles brothers in the COA Final will be DeMatha Catholic, VA (42.08) and St. John's College, DC (42.38). St. Elizabeth, JAM (42.03) also punched its ticket to the COA Final where you will see five of Jamaica's fastest teams go up against three of USA's best 4x100m squads tomorrow at 5:30pm (ET).
