Future Olympic stars Bryshon Nellum (Long Beach Poly, CA) and Yohan Blake (St. Jago, JAM) head-to-head anchor legs in 2007 HS Boys COA 4x400m
Yohan Blake, 2011 IAAF World Champion for 100 meters and tied with Tyson Gay for second-fastest sprinter ever at the distance (9.69), primed his racing legs competing for St. Jago High School (JAM) at The Penn Relays.
The short sprint specialist anchored the 2007 Championship of America High School Boys 4x400m Relay versus another future star - Bryshon Nellum of Long Beach Poly (CA).
This classic 4x400m relay showdown foreshadows two standout careers, as Nellum would go on to win multiple All-American honors at USC and earn a silver medal in the 4x400m at the 2012 London Olympics.
Both stars split 45.4 but it was Nellum, a 400-meter specialist, who would take the wheel home to California, 3:09.89 to 3:10.43, ahead of St. Jago. The time was second-fastest in Penn Relays history.
Blake anchored home the COA 4x100m team in 39.96, the first-ever sub-40 second clocking in Relays history.
