What is the most memorable Penn Relays high school performance of all time?

Mary Cain (Bronxville, NY)

Before the Nike contract, before the National High School Records and IAAF World Championship 3k title, Mary Cain was a sophomore at Bronxville High School (NY) looking for a personal record.

Against the two-time defending champion Angel Piccirillo (Homer Creek, PA) and 2011 IAAF World Youth 800m champion Ajee Wilson (Neptune, NJ), Cain rose to the occasion in the 2012 Penn Relays Mile. With a blistering 62.5 final lap, she broke the Relays Meet Record with a seven-second personal record of 4:39.28. The mark also set a National Sophomore Class Record.

The race was part of a meteoric rise for the young star, as she would go on to race the 800m prelims at the U.S. Olympic Trials, win the 1,500m at USATF Junior Nationals and place 10th overall at the IAAF World Junior Championships that summer.
