What is the most memorable Penn Relays high school performance of all time?

Matt Centrowitz (Broadneck, MD)

Matt Centrowitz

Matt Centrowitz would soon become the multiple-time All-American at the University of Oregon and 2012 Olympian, two-time IAAF World Championships 1,500m medalist that the track and field world knows so well.

But back in 2006, he was a junior at Broadneck High School - albeit, already a multiple-time Maryland State Champion. He garnered his first national attention in winning The Penn Relays Carnival 3k that year in 8:20.09.

Centrowitz returned in 2007 as an entrant in the Mile and set the then-Meet Record [since broken, see: Sean McGorty] of 4:08.38.

He is the only schoolboy to win both individual distance events in the history of the Relays.
