Teahna Daniels (First Academy Orlando, FL) is no stranger to success at the Jimmy Carnes Indoor Meet in Gainesville, Fla. The University of Texas signee blazed a US #1 6.94 55m at the invitational last year and repeated the feat this Saturday afternoon - improving her mark to 6.93, no less. Only two other girls prep performers have broken seven seconds this year in the event.
The performance was just one of many standout performances at a meet that includes youth, collegiate and professional-level athletes. Adidas sprinter Marvin Bracy opened the meet with a 6.09 world-leading run in the 55m dash. (Watch the race video here!) He set the Meet Record and high school national indoor record of 6.08 in 2012.
Florida signee Sharrika Barnett finally won the Girls 17-19 400m after finishing runner-up for the past two years. She did it in style, blazing US #3 55.39 for a new Meet Record.
The nation's top Boys 200m runner in Ryan Clark (21.35 season best) ran the country's fifth-fastest 200m time in 21.59 in the Boys 17-19 Section for a new Meet Record.
The Girls 200m was on fire as Jadzia Beasley and Tamani Wilson duked it out to US #15 24.96 and US #16 24.97 marks in the Girls 17-19 Section. In the Girls 15-16 200m, Symone Mason ran US #26 25.20.
Gainesville's own Ani Velcheva, just 10 years old, ran to an impressive 10:58.17 performance in the Girls 3k. Watch the post-race interview here.
Two-time Class 2A State Champion Nicole Carroll cleared US #7 13-feet even in the pole vault for a new Meet Record. The mark is the third-best All-Time in the Florida high school record books and just 2 1/2 inches from Erica Sergeant's state record.
