The 4K is where it is at in the Heartland for girls and currently Macy Heinz of Ipswitch High School in South Dakota owns the fastest time among them all after a US #1 time of 14:25 in her win at the Beresford Invitational. Heinz has already won a double digit number of state individual track titles over the past few years as a freshmen last year and prior as a middle school athlete, but is still searching for her first cross country championship title (3rd last year in the South Dakota Class B state race). A state champion in the 100, 400, 800, and 1600 last spring as a 9th grader (yes both the 100 & 1600 in same meet!), Heinz might be the best XC/track & field athlete to come out of the state of South Dakota if she continues her development over the next 3 years.
