It was a very competitive upperclassmen boys' race at the Wake County Classic on Saturday in Cary, North Carolina with Broughton junior Jeremy Brown, Cardinal Gibbons junior Connor Peeples, and Cary senior Dean Abushouk. Ultimately, Brown was able to pull away late on the 3K course at the Wake Med Soccer Complex (home of Great American & NXN Southeast) with a 9:05 victory to be followed in by Peeples (2nd, 9:10) and Abushouk (3rd, 9:14).

Wake Forest High School's Kayla Holder sent a strong opening message that she could be one of the top runners in the Triangle of North Carolina this fall in running away with the 11th and 12th grade girls race at the Wake County Kickoff in a time of 10:40. It was her first race at her new school after previous running at Ker-Vance Academy NC with sophomore year bests of 17:57 5K and 10:54 3200.

The Cardinal Gibbons girls should field one of the better teams in the state of North Carolina and there team just got a whole lot better with a talented freshmen newcomer in Marissa Bishop. Bishop blitzed the 9th & 10th grade girls race in a winning time of 11:04 with 30 seconds to spare between herself and the second place finisher. Only upperclassmen race winner Holder ran faster than Bishop on the day.
