Alan Webb had a meteoric rise to fame unlike any high school distance runner before him when he broke Jim Ryun's high school mile record at the 2001 Prefontaine Classic with a 3:53.43 jaw-dropping performance at Hayward Field in Eugene.
Webb's life and running career has been a rollercoaster ride since then including several injuries and comebacks, coaching changes and moves, US titles and Olympic dream disappointments, an American record in the mile, marriage and fatherhood, and his latest chapter after retiring from professional runner this past winter in working to become an elite triathlete.
