New Balance Nationals 'Performance List' - Boys Sprints/Hurdles

The New Balance Nationals Outdoor will be held this year on June 13th through 15th in Greensboro, North Carolina. Each year, meet management releases entry list updates leading up to the event that show the accepted competitors in each event by alphabetical order, but never shows the actual seed times or rankings for the events since they take in several factors beyond just a personal best or season best performance for heat and section assignment which is completely understandable as they try to match up the best of the best in country at that given time in the top sections of events.

However, since MileSplit has a powerful and accurate database with virtually all of these athlete's personal bests and season bests, we are going to take a stab at putting together unofficial "performance lists" for each event and ranking the individuals and relays going into their meet based on their PR's for individuals and season bests for relays. For time's sake, we are only putting together performance lists for the championship division events.

When you list everyone's PRs, one can truly appreciate the quality of fields which are being assembled once again at the 2014 New Balance Nationals. A reminder that these are completely unofficial performance lists and do not reflect actual seeding by meet management.

The New Balance Nationals "performance lists" article series will be broken into 4 articles: Girls Sprints/Hurdles, Boys Sprints/Hurdles, Girls Distance, Boys Distance, Girls Relays, Boys Relays, Girls Field Events, Boys Field Events. Based on the latest entry lists provided by meet management on Tuesday, June 9th at noon.

Boys Sprint/Hurdles Entries by PRs: 100m Dash - 200m Dash - 400m Dash - 110m Hurdles - 400m Hurdles

Last time we saw Leon Powell compete was nearly 1 1/2 months ago at the Texas State Championships when he rolled to the 3A state title in the 200 (21.01). Now 6 weeks of time separating him from his last major race, the Kennedale High School senior Powell will need to shake off some race rust while shifting his focus to the 100 meter dash for nationals having run 10.33 earlier this spring and also notching a major win in the event at the Texas Relays. A busy weekend is ahead for New Balance Nationals indoor 60 and 200 meter dash champ Trentavis Friday. Trying to win a national around his high school graduation is preventing him from going for another sprint double as the 100 is out with graduation ceremonies conflicts, but Friday aims to still be able to compete in the 200 meter dash and validate why he should be considered the best sprinter in the country after running a pair of US #1 times two weeks ago including a sizzling 20.33 clocking in the 200. Championship Boys 400m Dash Entrants by PR

The mystery event with a lot of question marks has to be the boys 400 meter dash. Zyaire Clemes (NJ) was one of the nation's top returning quarter milers from last year with his 46.28 PR, but did not run for his school this outdoor season and his fitness is unknown while entered in this meet. Another question mark is indoor national champ Richard Rose (NY), who did not race at his state meet last weekend after having a great spring of races leading up to the New York State Championships. Throw in several of the next top seeds having some up and down performances with great times one week then being defeated the next week, its a head scratcher what will happen or who will show up to win this event. The New Balance Nationals doesn't always get California's best as their top athletes seem to content often to take a break after coming off their ultra competitive state finals and not have to travel all the way across the country to North Carolina, but they got Cali's best and the nation's best in the hurdles making an appearance in Greensboro in Misana Viltz. The Millikan High School senior is coming off a lifetime best performance and US #1 wind-legal clocking of 13.47 at the CIF Finals last Saturday. (Photo by Kirby Lee of ImageOfSport.com)

A member of Team USA's World Youth squad last summer, a New Balance Nationals Outdoor title would just be another of several major accomplishments that Kenny Selmon of Pace Academy in Georgia can add to his high school credentials prior to arriving on the campus of UNC in the fall. Selmon took over the national lead in the 400 meter hurdles this spring three weekends ago at the Golden South Classic with a season best 51.25 clocking, while also winning a Georgia state title in the 300 hurdles earlier in May with a 37.16 season best in that event.
