Sacred Heart Academy (NY) junior distance runner Paige Duca traveled down to Miramar, Florida this past weekend to enjoy some warmer weather and sunshine as well as get her feet wet in the 2K steeplechase at the US Area Youth Olympics Selection Trials. Duca, who won the US World Youth Trials 2K steeple last summer in 7:07, was only 10 seconds off that time in an early season US #1 time of 7:17 that puts her in contention to make the Americas team for the World Youth Olympics team to be held this summer in China. Duca, who also ran a 4:38 1500 in the same meet on Saturday, is hoping to break 7 minutes this spring in the 2K steeplechase after posting a personal best of 7:01 at the New York State Championships last June.
