2014 Indoor State Meet Preview - Boys

The New York State Indoor Championships return to Cornell University's hallowed Barton Hall for the ninth straight year, and action is again going to be intense in a packed-in setting on Saturday, March 1. The girls will go first with 17 events in the morning (the 15 standard ones plus the intersectional relay and the racewalk), and the guys will have pretty much the same set of events in the afternoon.  Participants from 11 sections will be competing for the New York State Public High School Athletic Association crowns and also going for Federation titles while vying with the athletes from the mainly NYC-based PSAL public schools, CHSAA Catholic schools, and AIS independent schools.  The NY States Indoor Championship has all the action pressed into one day unlike the outdoor meet, and it has no divisions like outdoors or alternating guys and girls events. Each section and NYC association is allowed just one relay team, so each of the relay events generally have 14 teams competing in two heats. Up to three contestants can qualify from each of the 14 total entities in the individual events, so the more popular events like the sprints can have 36 sets of feet on the line, while that race walk oddity had only 21 girls finishing last year. And unlike at outdoors, there is no chance that you will be trying to set a state record running into a vicious wind and driving rain, which sounds a bit like the first day at MIddletown last year. To be honest, States is a mixed bag of great action and big drama that is a bit eclipsed by the specter of all the top teams and athletes that can't be there, either because they're the second and fourth best relay teams in the state but have the top dog in their conference, or the coach would prefer to have the team pointed for Nationals.  But for all who make the trip up to Barton Hall, be prepared for a totally exhausting day of screaming and pandemonium and maybe that rare big upset.

2014 Indoor State Meet Preview - Girls

The New York State Indoor Championships return to Cornell University's hallowed Barton Hall for the eighth straight year, and action is again going to be intense in a packed-in setting on Saturday, March 3. The guys will go first with 16 events in the morning (the 15 standard ones plus the intersectional relay), and the girls will have pretty much the same set of events in the afternoon along with a 17th oddity called the race walk. VHSL Group 6A State Meet Team Preview

It’s good to be a bear - at least it looks to be down at the Boo Williams Sportsplex this weekend.  In a strange coincidence, five of the six teams we feature in our 6A preview have adopted some form of bear for their school’s mascot.

VHSL Group 5A State Meet Team Preview

The top three teams on the boy’s side in 5A have seen a lot of each other this postseason.  Competition has been fierce thus far between the squads as mere points have separated all three at the Conference 11 and 5A South region meets.

Group 5A/6A Projected State Meet Team Scores

Want to score the performance list and see what teams are in best position to compete for the state indoor team titles and top 3 finishes at the Group 6A and Group 5A State Indoor Championships? Sean Leyh of MileStat.com has already done that as he tallies up the state meet entries to project the top 10 or 12 teams heading into each state championship meet at Boo Williams this weekend.

Who’s at Boo?

When the VHSL announced plans for a new classification system last year, we knew major changes were in store.  Virginia high school athletes will be crisscrossing the state this week as they head to their respective championship meets.  Three different sites will host the finest athletes in the state as they look to write a brand new chapter in the record books.

Wow. That is the only word that can describe this classification’s team title race. We at MileStat utilized both the virtual meet function and actually scored the performance list out and have projected that E. C. Glass will win the state title by a single point over Phoebus who will place second by a single point over Nansemond River. All three of these schools however have realistic shots at winning this title and each of these teams will pick their respective points in different fashions.

VHSL Group 3A Girls State Meet Preview

Liberty’s Tolsma Track is hosting an impressive four classifications’ state championships this week and many of them are projected to be extremely close team battles but the 3A Girls Championship does not adhere to that storyline. The 3A meet will be all Blacksburg’s to win or lose with them not only having some of the best runners in the entire state but having some of the best quality depth of any team at any level.
