One of the top areas which MileSplit will be looking to expand and improve upon in the coming year is providing live coverage at more top high school track & field (and cross country) events. That new chapter of MileSplit will begin this month in covering several end of season championship and post-season indoor meets. Stay tuned for future announcements of the meets which will be added to our live streaming schedule, but here is the first meet of many to come with live video coverage from MileSplit...
On February 22, MileSplit will be live-streaming the Michigan Indoor Track Series (MITS) State Championship at Central Michigan University. Announcer, Steve Arrivo, will be heading the coverage as the Michigan liaison to the broadcast. The event will have archived race footage avaliable on Michigan MileSplit to all MileSplit Insider members. Click here to sign up in advance to watch the live broadcast as well as have access to all of the MileSplit Insider access and content on MileSplit US, MileSplit Michigan, and all other state sites within the MileSplit Network.
The meet will be showcasing some of the top high school track & field stars in the nation. Foot Locker Champion, Grant Fisher (Grand Blanc), headlines the boys side with performances of 4:16.94 in the 1600 and 1:55.76 in the 800 already this season; some of the top times in the nation. Birmingham Seaholm junior,Audrey Belf, will be looking to continue a strong season after winning both Gazelle Sports Elite events with a 4:59.43 Mile and 10:27.19 3200. The state of Michigan has lots of depth in the distance races including 13 girls who have dipped under 11 minutes in the 3200 and nearly 10 boys under 9:40 in the deuce.
Michigan also has the Oak Park High School sprint relays which boast some of the faster times in the country for both boys and girls in the 4x200 and 4x400 with sophomore Anna Jefferson (US #7 56.38 400, US #14 24.75 200) as the star individual in their program. Competing under the Motor City Track Club during the indoor season, the Oak Park girls are US top 10 ranked in the 4x200 (US #10 1:42.37) and 4x400 (US #3 3:51.17), while their boys 4x200 relay is currently ranked US #7 at 1:29.66. The Motor City boys have two national caliber sprinters between Maurice Allen (US #8 ranked in 200 - 21.8) and Eli Minor (US #12 ranked in 60 - 6.86).
The MITS Championships will feature one of the rare 7 foot high jumpers nationally in Robert Atwater (US #2 ranked), while Ersula Farrow is flirting with a sub 2:10 time indoors in the girls 800 with a US #4 season best of 2:11.63 from last week.
MITS and Michigan MileSplit are excited to be able to come together to feature the MITS State Championship as one of the first high school track meets to be live-streamed by MileSplit.
