Lamar last made a serious run at a state title in 2005 when the Savages finished second, eight points back of Platte Canyon. The pendulum may have swung back, though, as Lamar clearly figures to be among the top teams for 2014 if everyone slated to come back shows up in uniform in the spring.
Lamar was a young team this year, but had plenty of talent in the persons of sprinters Ashley Snyder and Chelsea Vallejos, and throwers Courtney Clark, Summer Eberhardt, and Allison Sena. None of them graduated. Lamar will need some help from relays and such, but this could be the nucleus of a very strong team. A state-scoring kind of presence in distance and jumps would be a huge boost to this team.
Of course, this year's top two teams--Eaton and The Classical Academy--will be back for more as well. Eaton's preferred idea of more, however, probably isn't a fourth-consecutive sec...
