Analysis: The Brentwood High School girls cross country team continues to be the team to beat, demonstrating their dominance once again this season. As four-time defending Class AAA state champions, the Bruins opened the 2024 campaign with a strong performance at the Saturday Light Fever at Sanders Ferry Park. Under the lights, they showcased their depth and competitive edge, with six of their seven runners finishing in the top 30 in a highly competitive field that included athletes from multiple classifications and hundreds of competitors.
Pacing the Bruins was individual runner-up Lauren Banovac, who clocked an impressive time of 18 minutes, 38.91 seconds, just seven seconds behind the first-place finisher, Leila Hailey of Rockvale. Last season, Brentwood finished sixth at the NXR Southeast Regional, but they return all seven runners from that team, which posted a solid 18:41 average. Heading into the new season, their top five runners boast an impressive 5K average of 18:11.42, ranking them among the top ten nationally. With its strong roster and proven track record, Brentwood High is well-positioned to continue its winning tradition and make a significant impact on both regional and national stages.
