2023 Notable XC Results: 4th at the Southern Showcase, 2nd at the Great American XC Showcase, 1st at the GHSA Class 6A State Championships, 3rd place at the NXR Southeast Regional, and 15th at Nike Cross Nationals.
Analysis: Tommy Latham solidified his status as one of the Southeast's top-rising talents in 2023 with a series of standout performances. The junior began his season by setting a new 5K personal best of 14:41.01 to win the Southern Showcase. He also finished 2nd at the Great American XC Showcase with a time of 14:44.70. Latham then went on to win the GHSA Class 6A state title, leading the War Eagles to the team championship and winning his second consecutive individual title with a time of 15:57.21.
Latham's excellence continued on the national stage, where he earned First Team All-Region honors at the NXR Southeast with a third-place finish and a time of 14:47.00. He capped off his remarkable season by placing 15th at the Nike Cross Nationals Final, earning Third Team All-American status.
Latham then went on and excelled during the track and field season, winning the 6A Georgia State titles in the 1600m and 3200m, finishing 2nd at the RunningLane Track Championships in the mile (4:03), 4th in the mile at the HOKA Festival of Miles (4:01.74), and 3rd in the mile at Nike Outdoor Nationals (4:03.09). Overall he finished as the Class of 2025s top miler last season and ranked #6 overall nationally.
