BOYS 400mH

Time: 49.38

Where: IAAF World U20 Championships

Record-Holder: Kenneth Ferguson, Detroit Mumford, 2002

If more state associations across the NFHS adopt Florida's recent changes to its state series -- the FHSAA added the 400mH to its program, replacing the 300mH -- then maybe the narrative around the this event changes.

But as of now, not enough work is put toward the 400mH for any high schooler to challenge Ferguson's all-time best of 49.38 from 2015 over the 36-inch hurdles.

Only seven high school athletes in history have gone under 50 seconds in the event. But Ferguson's -- the husband of Allyson Felix -- stands alone as owning the high school record, having gone over the 36' hurdles.

None have done so since 2015.

Former NFL quarterback Robert Griffin, a graduate of Copperas Cove (TX) in 2007, ran 49.56 in 2007.
