From start to finish, Adam Burlison of Grapevine (TX) led the majority of the race in the 4A 3,200m.
During the first event of the day, Burlison received pressure from McAllen Memorial's Ayden Granados.
The eight-lap race got interesting as Granados went to the lead with 800m left to go. Burlison kept his composure and remained in striking distance of the Oklahoma State commit.
While coming off the final turn, Burlison shifted to a new gear that not many people were expecting. As the junior left everything out on the track, he crossed the finish line in 8:54.47, which is the second-fastest time in the state this year.
Burlison continued his state championships with another title in the 1,600m in a similar way as he posted a new personal best of 4:08.64.
