2016 was a good year for Floridians at NXNSE. For the first time in the meet's history, the Sunshine State sent two individual qualifiers to the national meet in Portland, Oregon. Pine Crest freshman Tsion Yared finished 4th overall while Bolles junior Caitlin Collier nabbed the final spot as the 5th best individual not on an advancing team. This past Saturday Team VA put on a show down at the NXN-Southeast Regional. Though there were many races on the day at the WakeMed course in Cary, NC, the two centers of attention were the championship races just prior to noon. Up first was the boys race.

Four Maryland girls finished in the top ten at Foot Locker Northeast Regionals today at Van Cortlandt Park in New York City.
Rohann Asfaw, Dalton Hengst and Will Merritt all qualified for a national cross country championship on Saturday.
Prior to the 2016 Nike Southeast Regional, only one female athlete has qualified for NXN and that was Rafaella Gibbons in 2014 and 2015. However, the Wake Med Course was generous to our Sunshine State girls as both Tsion Yared of Pine Crest and Caitlin Collier of Bolles punched their tickets to Porland, Oregon for NXN. On the boy's side, Trenton Mandato and his Trinity Prep teammates came up shy of a repeat trip to the Pacific Northwest. Complete Florida recap.

Pine Crest freshman Tsion Yared and Bolles junior Caitlin Collier continued their spectacular cross country seasons by finishing 4th and 6th respectively in times of 17:42.40 and 17:55.90 to advance from the NXN Southeast Regional to Nike Cross Nationals in Portland, Oregon.
#7 Blacksburg and #8 Lake Braddock advance to NXN as top two teams
This race is going to be a fast one and Kate is not going to play around. She needs to win this race to give Lake Braddock a serious shot at making NXN in back-to-back seasons.
The Pine Crest girls are in Cary, North Carolina for the NXN Southeast Regional and are seeded fifth with the top two teams earning automatic bids to Portland, Oregon for NXN. Before they left our Daniel Manco had a chance to go all access with the Panthers and film their last workout in the Sunshine State.

Entries have been released for the Nike Cross Nationals Southeast Regional. A good number of Florida teams and individuals will be making the trip to down to WakeMed Soccer Complex in Cary, North Carolina to race on Saturday. MileSplit will be on-site with coverage!
Winter Park junior Rafaella Gibbons already has her name in the Florida history books as the only girls individual to qualify for Nike Nationals not just once, but twice. Gibbons finished sixth overall in 2014 and improved on that showing with a third place finish in 2015 running 17:30.80, the fastest ever by a Sunshine State girl at NXNSE. The top three performances by Florida athletes all came from that race.
