Brooks PR Invitational 2016

Stanford recruit Christina Aragon qualified for the Olympic Trials in the 1500m this weekend with a new PR of 4:09.27, the third-fastest time in prep history. She's also a standout gymnast. Can she defend her Brooks PR 800m title this weekend vs. No. 1 ranked Sammy Watson, who is .06 seconds off qualifying for the Trials in the half mile?

Before Brandon Cachon heads off to UNC he will compete in one last meet, the Brooks PR Invitational in Seattle, Washington. The Barron Collier senior won the 3A state championship in the 400, anchored the 4x800m relay team, and was the 200m runner-up, helping his team to a runner-up trophy. Cachon wanted nothing more than to earn his ticket to Brooks PR by winning the 400m dash at Flo Golden South, but friend and competitor Tyrese Cooper stood in his way. However, he helped him to a SB 46.99 and the folks at Brooks took notice. We talked to Cachon about getting invited to this prestigious meet, his plans, and much more!

Four Florida sprinters made the trip to the west coast for the Brooks PR Invitational in Seattle with three athletes Jan'Taijah Ford, Brandon Cachon, and Chauncy Smart all finishing in the top three in their respective races, while Janaya Chambers was 7th in the girls 400m dash. Northeast High School freshman Jan'Taijah Ford had a spectacular 2016 season. Ford, or T1 as they call her, ran away with the 3A state title in the 400m dash in 54.01s and followed that up with a new personal best time of 53.77 to win Flo Golden South and give her an automatic ticket to the Brooks PR Invitational. We caught up with her to talk about her training leading up to Saturday, what she's looking forward to, and much more.

The Brooks PR Invitational is less than two weeks away!

Auburndale junior Chauncy Smart is hungry. Hungry to prove he is one of the fastest sprinters not just in Florida, but in the rest of the country. Smart a two-sport standout in both football and track, clocked a then US#1 time of 10.30w to win the Pepsi Florida Relays. In fourteen races, he tallied two losses, with the last coming at the 3A state championship meet, a heartbreaking photo finish that saw him come up one one-hundredth of a second from the win. Following the meet, Smart thought his year was done, no postseason plans on the horizon, and spring football practice looming. He says he switched from his track spikes and laced up his cleats gearing up for the gridiron.

Stanton Prep senior and UGA signee Janaya Chambers won the 3A state championship in the 400m dash at the 2015 state meet running a PR of 54.17. Chambers was invited to the Brooks PR Invitational where she 5th against the nation's top athletes. In 2016, she faced some setbacks that caused her to cut her senior season short and focus on school and her health. However, she was a little surprised when she was invited back to Seattle for the 2016 Brooks PR. We talk to her about getting the invite, the road back, and her plans for Saturday.
