Girls Rankings
Wesley Frazier (NC) left little doubt as to who the best runner in the country is after the 2011 outdoor track season. The Ravenscroft harrier created her own form of history at the 2011 NBON meet by winning two events and finished an impressive third in another. Frazier won the 5000 meter run with a sophomore record of 16:24.83 after taking control of the race late. She then came back in the 2 mile and finished third with an impressive 10:10.86 clocking. She could have stopped right there and cemented her legacy as a super-soph, but Frazier was also entered in the mile. Showing incredible race-savvy and endurance she wound up with the win and a time of 4:44.76. With this type of form she will be hard to beat this season. Sitting at US#2 is a fellow Foot Locker finalist, Grace Tinkey from GA. Grace has already put her stamp on XC 2011 with a 17:55.95 clocking on a course she ran 18:30 on in 2010. Sarah Baxter (CA) begins the season at US#3 with a freshman resume that boasts plenty of wins against more seasoned competition including a 10:13.00 win in the 3200 at the CA state meet and a 16:45.87 clocking for 5000 meters at the Portland Track Festival. US#4 Haley Pierce (DE) boasts a 10:22.91 3200 meter PR and won her Nike Regional last season. Erin Finn (MI) finalizes the top-5 as the top returner from Foot Locker in 2010 as teh 7th place finisher. She boasts a 10:19.28 2 mile PR. Boys Rankings
The boys 2011 Cross Country season is sure to provide some stellar fireworks as well as surprises along the way to Foot Locker and Nike. That being said, there is little doubt that the US#1 slot belongs to Edward Cheserek (St. Benedict's Prep, NJ) to start the season off. Edward began his meteoric rise to super stardom during the 2010 NBIN 2 mile race where he ran stride for stride with Lukas Verzbicas to finish 2nd with a sophomore record of 8:42.66. He also ran 14:02.33 for 5000 meters outdoors and finished 3rd in the adidas Dream Mile with a time of 4:03.29. Edward will have the target on his back, but that shouldn't matter to him. Futsum Zeinasellassie (IN) starts things off at US#2 while Tony Smoragiewicz (SD) sits at US#3. Behind these three things are pretty wide open, but a healthy Andrew Gardner (WA) should really rip up the scene in Washington and be a force on the national scene. Ahmed Bile (VA) rounds out the top-5 after recording some stellar track times this spring.
