Analysis: Cole Sprout had a sophomore season for the record books...literally. Sprout set the sophomore class national record in the 3000m running 8:13.85 to win the Oregon Relays and then set the 2-mile sophomore class national record running 8:49.46 to place second at the Brooks PR Invitational.
During the 2017 cross country season, he accomplished almost equally impressive feats. He placed second at the Nike Cross Nationals Southwest Regional just behind eventual Nike Cross Nationals Champion Aidan Troutner. In Portland, Cole placed 21st and was the third fastest sophomore.
