22.
Team: Fort Wayne Carroll (IN)
Analysis: One of the traditional powers of Indiana, the squad essentially ended its season in 2017--they performed at another meet in November, though not at the national level--after finishing second at states, ahead of rival Carmel and Brebeuf Jesuit and just behind Zionsville. A year later, the team looks even stronger on paper.
That all centers around sophomore Zoe Duffus, who ran a best of 17:45.50 on the season to become the team's No. 1 but endured a rough state championship experience--had she performed better, the team likely would have claimed a state title. That outing no doubt will be a blip on Duffus' resume, though her teammates are even stronger in 2018. Led by junior Erin Strzelecki and senior Meagan Hathaway, the program returns five of its top seven.
