Athlete: Amaris Tyynismaa

Analysis: Tyynismaa, who began competing at the varsity level as an eighth-grader and earned a career best of 16:57 that season in the 5K, has absolutely dominated the state of Alabama since 2014, racking up four Class 4A titles and countless wins. Not counting Foot Locker Regionals, she's won all but three meets over her career. Last year, in particular, represented one of her best seasons on record.
She produced a season best time of 17:14.37 in Alabama's state championship, which was the third fastest of her career. She returns with the 15th fastest 5K of 2017 and has a chance to reach a national meet for the first time in her career--if she chooses to compete for one.
